Monday, February 14th, we were fortunate to have 3 leading figures of the aesthetics world discussing the hot topic of Female hair loss. Dr Bruce Reith and Dr Neil Sadick along with Ms Antonia Mariconda considered the social trends, causes and treatment options specifically for Androgenic Alopecia. This discussion was led by Laurence Desbordes, journalist specialized in lifestyle, fashion and health.
Ms Antonia Mariconda drew a portrait of hair trends and characteristics according to ethnicity. She gave the key figures concerning alopecia in women. She also gave the «hair» budgets for women (products, hairstyles, etc.). She cited the 3 methods to prevent hair loss: cosmetic, conservative, surgical.
Bruce Reith was then asked about the psychological and social aspects of patients. In particular, he presented the results of a study that investigated the mental and physical health of patients following hair restoration. Before proposing a treatment the doctor explained how he makes the right diagnosis before proposing the best treatment. The solutions proposed are different depending on the patient and their needs. He also talked about pain management and treatment safety.
Dr Sadick had a different approach. He is used to treating patients with co-morbidities and proposed biopsies to allow an accurate diagnosis. He talked about the causes of alopecia (genetics, comorbidities, inflammation, etc.).
He associated several treatments depending on the patient. For the pain due to the injections, he suggested using cooling helmets to anaesthetise the treated areas. He insists on the fact that it is necessary to prepare patients for the long treatment period. Videos and images can be shown to explain the steps. Dr Sadick, similarly to Dr Reith provides PRP injections as part of his preferred treatment regime.
The session is already accessible in replay on the Biobridge site . Content includes medical and surgical procedures.
We hope to meet you next Monday for the following events of the program and especially on February 28th on gynecology: Sexual health after menopause.
